working as a location manager involves making the filming a positive experience for the local community. In 2006 a two-year lease was acquired on a dilapidated farmhouse and some neglected farmland in a small French village – to make a series of films about insects. Our neighbours were curious about our activities and wanted to be part of the adventure. There was an enthusiastic response to the open invitation to participate in devising events where we could meet each other; the first evening took place in the village hall, there were cocktails, we showed examples of our work , answered questions and asked for help … this was followed by a communal meal. There was positive coverage in the local papers, people from the surrounding villages joined us, there were more events … contact with this community continues
